Tell me how a person earning an average wage is supposed to afford to live in Vancouver right now. Mayor Sim has no real answer for that. The city caters to wealth and people who actually do the work there get pushed further and further out. Essential workers commuting an hour each way because they can't afford to live in the city they serve. That's not a city working for everyone. That's a city working for some people and leaving the rest behind.

Ken Sim's ABC Vancouver approach is very business-focused but ordinary working families haven't seen the benefits. Rents remain astronomical. Transit is inadequate. The city keeps approving luxury development while workforce housing gets ignored. Being pro-business is fine but a mayor's job is to work for all residents — especially those who are struggling. Vancouver needs leadership that connects economic growth to actual affordability for the people who live and work there.

Ken Sim has served as Mayor of Vancouver since 2022, running on a law-and-order and business-friendly platform. On the delivery side, he fulfilled his signature promise of hiring 100 new police officers and 100 new mental health nurses. Vancouver is hosting 2026 FIFA World Cup matches and the Invictus Games, and City Council approved a Vision Zero Safe Mobility Plan in June 2026. He moved quickly to clear the long-standing tent encampment on East Hastings Street. The integrity concerns, however, are serious. An independent investigator found that Sim "misused the influence of his office" and harassed a fellow councillor — a code of conduct violation. He was criticized for converting a City Hall boardroom into a personal gym and for attempting to pause investigations by the city's integrity commissioner. His push to abolish the elected park board met strong public opposition. Property taxes rose 7.5% in his second year without a corresponding improvement in services. His ABC Vancouver party placed sixth and seventh in the 2025 Vancouver by-election — a significant political setback. The city's housing and affordability crises have not improved under his watch, and no net new supportive housing has been approved.
