Angelo Iacono

Angelo Iacono has represented Alfred-Pellan — a suburban Laval riding — as a Liberal Member of Parliament since 2015. He is among the more low-profile members of the Liberal caucus: not a cabinet minister, not a prominent spokesperson on any major file, not someone whose name appears frequently in national media debates. In a parliamentary system, backbench MPs perform real and important work that rarely earns headlines: constituency casework, committee participation, private member's bills, connecting residents to federal programs, advocating for local infrastructure. These are legitimate and valuable functions, and Iacono has filled that role for a decade. The difficulty with evaluating a low-profile backbencher is that their most consequential decisions happen in the voting lobby, not on television. Iacono voted to sustain the Trudeau government through ten years of federal budgets: the spending packages, the immigration targets, the housing supply policy framework, the carbon pricing design.
