Public servants at every level of government have to justify the trust we place in them. At the local level especially — where permits, services, and community programs touch people's daily lives — what you do matters immediately. My experience with local government lately has been frustration: wait times, unanswered calls, services that cost more every year but don't improve. Every person holding a public service position should be hearing regularly from the people they serve — not just at election time. Whoever is making these decisions needs to be held to account and needs to feel that accountability before the next election, not after.

Went through a permit application for a home addition and the experience was frustrating. The plans review took far longer than expected and getting clear answers at each stage was difficult. I understand inspectors deal with complex code requirements but homeowners need better guidance upfront. When construction costs are as high as they are right now, every extra week in the plans review stage translates directly to more money out of pocket — contractor standby time is not cheap. The system needs to be more efficient and more accessible for regular homeowners.
